How to Stream Audio
By Barry D Walker

Do you want to stream audio on your website? In this article we give you the most common free methods of streaming.

Before you start make sure you have the following:

1. Audio Editor such as the free open source software Audacity

2. Notepad or another software that you can type simple txt or html

RAM – Real Audio Media

This was really popular a few years back, but flash players and the rise of high speed internet mean that its possible to stream full quality MP3 files.

To stream a real audio simply save your music into a .rm file using your audio editor. Upload your .rm file to your web server. Once you have done this take note of the website address of the .rm file and using notepad, type this URL into it.

Save the notepad file, but change the prefix at the end from .txt to .ram. Upload the .ram file to your web server and take note of the web address of this file. On your website, create a link to the .ram file so that your music will stream on clicking it.

Unfortunately this kind of steaming may require the user to have Real Media Player. The problem is that not everyone has it.

M3U – Moving Picture Experts Group Audio Layer 3 Uniform Resource Locator

Originally created for use in WinAmp, this method is done in a similar way to .ram files, but is instead used for streaming MP3 and WMA files.

To stream using this method follow the same instructions as the .ram files, but instead save your music to .mp3 or .wma. When saving the notepad file, save it with the prefix .m3u. Also, you can actually add more than one audio file to .m3u files.

Flash Players

There are many flash players around and some of them are free. However, some of them require you to copy and paste code that links back to their website. This can make your website look a tad unprofessional. But if this is the way you want to go down you can try using the flash player at myflashfetish.com.

You can also purchase flash software that will have player templates for you to use. Or, you can create your own player using the software if you are that advanced in flash designing.

If you want one that doesn’t require a link back to a website and requires no flash design software, then i suggest using the WordPress audio player. Don’t worry, you don’t need WordPress to use it. Just follow the instructions on www.macloo.com/examples/audio_player/ and you will have a decent player without having to splash the cash. Be sure to donate to the makers of the software if you continue to use it.

These methods are not they only methods of steaming audio, but they are the most popular. Long gone are the days of trying to embed Windows Media Player or Real Audio Player into a web page as a lot of people found that these caused compatibility problems.

Who knows, maybe there will be another way of streaming audio in the future that will require no extra software to play the files.

How to Add Streaming Audio to a Blog
By Jimmy George

According to Verisign, the global registrar for all websites ending with .com, there are around 180 million domains registered all over the world as on April of 2009. Whether all of them are active and alive with relevant content cannot be neither confirmed or denied and it is fairly safe to assume that a considerable portion of these are either parked, forwarded or just kept in safe custody by companies to avoid abuse of their reputed brands as well as hard earned goodwill. Out of this, around 70 million are blogs which to some extent, can be considered as alive if not updated on regular basis. So if you are the proud owner of a blog like me, then we are two among this 70 million or proverbially, two drops in an ocean.

Some blog for fun, some to scam, companies blog to spread brand awareness, some want to showcase their talent and others to make a living. Whatever may the purpose be, your blog should have to stand out from the crowd in delivering the content. Adding streaming audio to your blog is one way you can deliver content differently. By virtue of their dynamic nature, blogs are very good at getting indexed faster by search engines rather than their static counterparts. There is a lot of software out in the internet that claims to stream audio but, a few of them are in fact, capable of doing it. Most software simply links to a remote audio file which is exactly NOT how streaming audio works.

Contrary to conventional perception, it is the process that undergoes in creating compressed encoded files that is difficult rather than embedding it to a specific part of your website. Making streaming audio practical and accessible to all users depends upon the underlying format/program. Audio files can be encoded in Java as well as flash with both of them having their own ups and downs. However, the crowd favorite seems to be flash based streaming audio by virtue of its availability in 94 percent of computers worldwide that are connected to the internet. The element of flexibility, interactivity through a vast selection of customizable players that can be branded to seamlessly blend with the websites that hosts them also tilts choice towards flash based streaming audio. The compressed encoded files are uploaded to your web hosting account via ftp and in the case of blogs, is referenced from there into the post or page where you want the audio player to appear. Some software will only let you to reference files from the same server whereas others allow you to reference files from anywhere over the internet. So before you buy the appropriate streaming audio software, do some math on not only your present requirements but about audio streaming applications that may arise in the near and foreseeable future.

Audio Streaming for WordPress

Audio Streaming for WordPress
By RJ Bai

Audio streaming is an underutilized tool that can enhance the communication between you and your customer. WordPress has a few plug ins that make it very easy to add audio to your website. When we take a closer look you will see how easy it is to add audio to any page of your website.

Audio Pitfalls

The biggest problem most people face with audio is actually making the audio. Fear of the microphone and the inexperience of talking to your computer frightens some people to death. The good news is technology has made it very easy and inexpensive to record your message, and as far as you recording a message, this just requires practice.

Like anything that’s new and outside of your comfort zone, recorded audio falls into that category. There is also an issue of quality, again the good news is a $40.00 microphone has good enough quality to make an acceptable recording.

Audio Recording

There is a lot of free software you can use to do basic recording. Even Microsoft itself has a basic recorder built into the operating system. I have tried both and I prefer the free versions that you get online.

These free versions offer an upgrade that you can use to edit your recordings. If you start recording a lot of audio, then the editing software will be well worth the money. If your recordings are 5 minutes or longer, and you mess up toward the end, the editing software will come in handy.

WordPress Plug In

There are some basic plug ins that are free and work just fine for audio streaming. As you might know if your recording is over eight MB, then you need to find outside hosting for your audio files.

I have found that Amazon’s storage is extremely reasonably priced and reliable for your audio storage and needs. Amazon uses the words bucket in place of what we commonly know as files. When you get use to some of the different terminology they use everything else is quite simple to hook up.

I believe you’ll find audio much easier to use compared to a video and cheaper. There are other benefits to offering audio to your readers such as the ability for them to download it and burn it to a CD. When I join a webinar I rarely watch the video, but always enjoyed listening to the audio.

Don’t underestimate the value of having audio on your website.

Audio is still a very effective way to communicate with a reader. Go to Lifetime Online Income, listen to the audio and find out more about the Online business world itself. It is always a learning process, you will get better at it.

Basics in Choosing a Streaming Audio Server
By Menno Spijkstra

Why do you think many companies of different products concern themselves of having their own jingles in their advertisements? Well, simply because they want to have easy recall of their products. It has become quite a practice among advertisers to have a jingle when they advertise their product on television or on radio. Maybe you have even noticed yourself unconsciously humming the tune of the last song you have heard in the department store. This only goes to show that while you were busy doing your shopping, your brain unconsciously absorbs what it hears. This same theory is being applied by internet marketers when they decide to have streaming audio on their web site.

Courtesy of today’s technology, webmasters enjoy the benefits of having this kind of online media advertising applied to their business on the net. The internet has paved the way of fusing audio, visual, and print advertising in just one medium. Somehow you can conclude that almost everything and anything can be done through and on the internet. Going back, if you want to embed streaming audio on your web site, it is equally important that you are also aware on how to pick out the best streaming audio server. Commonly, webmasters use Flash audio on their sites since Flash is the most widely used format and the most ideal one at that.

Your streaming audio server must have the highest quality of output as much as possible. Remember that producing good quality sounds for your site is essential in getting your message across in a right manner. If you decide to do a canned sales pitch, you need to be particular that this recording is of quality and very audible. The sound must be clear enough so that people who will listen to it will rightfully understand the message you wish to impart. Other affiliate marketers hire a voice talent while others do it themselves. Either way, you need to make sure that your streaming audio server is of high quality and can keep up to the change of times.

Thus, think on a long term basis in choosing a streaming audio server. Next, you need to understand that with quality comes a price. But don’t be discouraged just as yet because there are specific prices that are ideal depending on what you choose to have. For one, you need to decide how much of your budget are you willing to spend for this tool. Remember that if you are doing this for your business, then you have to keep in mind that this media must be able to bring in the target number of customers you need. Even if it means that you will cash out, just think of the benefits of audio streaming to your sales page.

Having a sound being played on your screen while people are navigating your site will surely have a different effect to your customers buying disposition. Not to mean that they will buy right away, but it is more on the product retention through sounds. The next time they want to buy something online, they will be able to remember your product and your site. In choosing a streaming audio server, think of quality first and surely the positive results will get to you after you have done audio advertising efficiently.

Play Streaming Audio

Play Streaming Audio
By Adrian Hargray

Are you looking to play streaming audio on your website? If so I think you’re doing yourself a huge favor. Studies of have shown that website audio is known to increase online conversion rates with consumers, so to play streaming audio on your site is a wise decision to be making.

If you want to play streaming audio on your site, the first thing that you need is an audio sample. You can easily create this via your computer. If your computer comes pre-built with an internal microphone, you can record an audio sample directly onto your computer.

If you’re computer doesn’t have an internal microphone built-in, then you can use a tool such as a webcam to record your audio. I used to create Youtube videos with my web cam and would extract the audio from the videos to create podcasts. The laptop I had at the time didn’t allow for recording directly into the computer, so I had to use an external device to record my sound.

Once your audio sample is created, you will need to convert it into an MP3 file. MP3 format is the most commonly accepted form of audio today, so it’s important that you get well acquainted with it. Once you turn your sample into an MP3 file, it’s time to convert it into flash format.

You need to convert your audio into flash format because this is the most common form of website audio today. If you tried to play streaming audio with just a raw MP3 file, your website would take forever to load and users would have to wait until the entire file is downloaded to hear your audio sample.

But with flash format, there’s no waiting. The most common form of flash files today are.SWF and.FLV. Youtube accepts.FLV files (just thought that you should know that). Anyway, you will need to convert your MP3 audio file into one of these formats. To do this, you will need a software to do it. If you tried to convert an audio file to flash format manually, then you would be trying to attempt a tremendous feat. Instead, stick with the easy route and use a software.

There are all kinds of software out there that can convert your audio for you. Some are easy to use, and some are not too easy. Obviously you want to stick with the easy one so that you can play streaming audio simply and easily. When looking for a software to use, make sure that it has an easy to use graphical interface.

Some programs are so complex that it makes it virtually impossible to make an audio using the program. Be sure to pick a program that provides screenshots of the software on the description or sales page of the product. This is the best way to determine if whether or not the software will be easy to use or not.

Use these tips to play streaming audio on your website. Streaming audio can increase product conversion rates and boost your sales through the roof.

Good luck with your efforts to play streaming audio on your website.
