Should I be Afraid of Hypnosis?

Have you ever been so involved with a task where you have lost track of time?

Have you ever been driving on a long trip and suddenly realized that you were thinking of something else for the previous 30 minutes?

Have you ever been engaged in exercise and “zoned out” for a period of time, not remembering what happened in the interval?

If so, you experienced hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a pleasant, natural state of physical and mental relaxation which is naturally experienced on a daily basis by everyone.

Science simply cannot agree on what it is and how it works, although as The British Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis states: “Hypnosis usually involves the person experiencing a sense of deep relaxation with their attention narrowed down, and focused on appropriate suggestions made by the hypnotist.”

A good technical definition of hypnosis is: A state of relaxation and concentration at one with a heightened awareness induced by suggestion.

Relaxation

Hypnosis has been described in literature as a state of deep relaxation. Yet, modern scientific research has proven that hypnotic trance is not merely a state of relaxation. Sophisticated medical imaging techniques such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans reveal distinctly different patterns of brain activity depending on the state of sleep, relaxation, meditation or hypnosis.

The hypnotic experience has the unusual characteristic of combining concentration with relaxation, which allows you to focus on your problem, anxiety or habit while remaining relaxed.

A suggestion received under hypnosis relaxation is nine times more powerful and stronger because your subconscious mind is 90% of your mind power.

When you are hypnotized, you feel very calm and relaxed as though nothing else matters but being in this deep peaceful relaxation.

What is meant by hypnotic relaxation is a deliberately directed process that interrupts the circle of “mind disturbing body and body disturbing mind” syndrome. In the Hypnotic State, the doorway between the conscious and the subconscious is opened, memories become easily accessible, and new information is stored, without conscious “filters” acting in a judgmental manner.

The World Health Organization says 90% of the general population can be hypnotized. To those people who wonder if they can be hypnotized, the answer is most probably: YES.

When it comes to finding ways to improve the quality of my life, I will pretty much try anything. I’m a total self-help addict! I am constantly on the lookout for new books, tv shows, and audiobooks– anything that will help me learn to gain insight into my life, solve a problem, or approach a situation from a new perspective.

One method of self-improvement that I particularly love, for a variety of reasons, is listening to self hypnosis audio. I have consistently gained positive results from all the different recordings I have listened to.

For instance, falling asleep quickly and easily has always been difficult for me. I will lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, and toss and turn for hours. On a whim, I decided to download a self hypnosis audio recording designed to help insomniacs fall asleep. I put my headphones on, closed my eyes, and let myself give in to the soothing ambient sounds.

The gentle hypnotic voice told me how to relax the various muscles in my body, and how to let go of the stress I carried with me from the day. Eventually, the voice guided me into a deep sleep…

This is just one example. I have also used self hypnosis audio to get over my shyness, gain confidence, and learn how to lucid dream, among other things.

The reason why self hypnosis audio works so well is because when you are in a hypnotic state, your mind is much more open to suggestion than it would be otherwise. You become open and willing to accept what the voice in the recording tells you. Hypnotism works at a deeper subconscious level.

No matter how many books you read on gaining self-confidence, you will never actually gain confidence until you put the concepts you’ve read into action (or thought). This can be easier said than done! However, with self hypnosis, you soak up the concepts on the subconscious level like a sponge. You are automatically more likely to succeed, because the steps needed to achieve success are already imbedded deep into your mind.

You don’t need audio to hypnotize yourself, but it makes it much easier! With self-hypnosis audio, all you have to do is find a comfortable spot, relax, and listen to the recording.

You don’t have to be a Shaman to do self-hypnosis. It’s quite simple really; you get yourself into a trance, follow a routine, but here’s what’s great about it, you can do it while listening to a recording. Great, you can listen to an Elvis or to a Michael Jackson.

But there is even a better alternative to getting any collectors’ item audio. They are called self-hypnosis audio books. There are a couple of good ones but first you have to know if you really need self-hypnosis. When do you need it by the way? Most of us would think that it has something to do with a tragic accident , a painful death, a stormy relationship, or a divorce that would lead you to self-hypnotize yourself, but this form of therapy is not only intended for mental and psychological health; in fact the earliest record of its application is that of rheumatism. The audio book Optimum Mind Performance Series: Staying Mentally Well after Divorce does not only handle your psychological issues after the break-up; it helps you to take the reins again, releasing emotions that are not useful at all and helps you gain back the responsibility over money, tasks, and other routine that used to be shared. Now for those who are lucky enough not to have so much pain but who are quite high-strung, here is an audio book that can help you relax your nerves.

Audio Hypnosis – 5 Ways to Listen to Your Audio Hypnosis Mp3 Files

I get asked often just how I use audio hypnosis Mp3 files and what I would suggest for someone just getting into this wonderful practice.

I have a number of ways I listen to the hypnosis audio files, but all involve my iPod. I just couldn’t exist without my shuffle pumping music and hypnosis tracks into my ear as I engage in various aspects of my life. In fact, as I write this article, I am sitting on my couch with a laptop on my lap and my iPhone earbuds in my ear, listening to concentration enhancing hypnosis audio tracks.

All well and good for me, but for you: What is the best way to use your Audio-hypnosis files?

I can’t answer that question because I don’t know your personal lives, your situations or your abilities. Therefore, I wil instead present 5 of the most common ways to enjoy the mp3 audio hypnosis files.

One way is to listen to your iPod (or similar device) in bed as you fall asleep at night. The sound of a relaxing voice is much more relaxing that counting sheep!

Another excellent way to listen to the hypnosis audio files is to use them as a wake-up call. That’s right, you can set your alarm to go off a half-hour earlier than normal and spend that time listening to your hypnosis audio files. The quality of relaxation and stress relief you’ll get from the hypnosis audio files will more than offset the 1/2 hour sleep you lose!

A third way to listen to the audio is while working out. Running, walking, bicycling, lifting weights or playing sports provides an excellent opportunity to listen to hypnosis audio. You don’t think those professional or Olympic athletes you see with earphones are listening to music, do you?

Mealtimes are also wonderful times to listen to your audio files. What better time than while eating to remind yourself how to enjoy healthy foods and not partake of junk food? Many employees have the opportunity to quietly eat their lunch in an office, library, park or rooftop garden. Take your iPod with you on break and enjoy your time alone. Think of it this way: if you have been taking “smoke breaks” at work, use that time to listen to “Quit Smoking” Mp3 audio hypnosis recordings instead. It will be cheaper, healthier and just plain better for you!

Last, try and set aside a little time each day for meditation, or at least “quiet time” for yourself. What a perfect opportunity to fortify your goals and to lose stress by listening to hypnosis audio files playing softly on a home stereo or on your iPod.
