Audio Streaming for WordPress
By RJ Bai

Audio streaming is an underutilized tool that can enhance the communication between you and your customer. WordPress has a few plug ins that make it very easy to add audio to your website. When we take a closer look you will see how easy it is to add audio to any page of your website.

Audio Pitfalls

The biggest problem most people face with audio is actually making the audio. Fear of the microphone and the inexperience of talking to your computer frightens some people to death. The good news is technology has made it very easy and inexpensive to record your message, and as far as you recording a message, this just requires practice.

Like anything that’s new and outside of your comfort zone, recorded audio falls into that category. There is also an issue of quality, again the good news is a $40.00 microphone has good enough quality to make an acceptable recording.

Audio Recording

There is a lot of free software you can use to do basic recording. Even Microsoft itself has a basic recorder built into the operating system. I have tried both and I prefer the free versions that you get online.

These free versions offer an upgrade that you can use to edit your recordings. If you start recording a lot of audio, then the editing software will be well worth the money. If your recordings are 5 minutes or longer, and you mess up toward the end, the editing software will come in handy.

WordPress Plug In

There are some basic plug ins that are free and work just fine for audio streaming. As you might know if your recording is over eight MB, then you need to find outside hosting for your audio files.

I have found that Amazon’s storage is extremely reasonably priced and reliable for your audio storage and needs. Amazon uses the words bucket in place of what we commonly know as files. When you get use to some of the different terminology they use everything else is quite simple to hook up.

I believe you’ll find audio much easier to use compared to a video and cheaper. There are other benefits to offering audio to your readers such as the ability for them to download it and burn it to a CD. When I join a webinar I rarely watch the video, but always enjoyed listening to the audio.

Don’t underestimate the value of having audio on your website.

Audio is still a very effective way to communicate with a reader. Go to Lifetime Online Income, listen to the audio and find out more about the Online business world itself. It is always a learning process, you will get better at it.

In the world of making beats, one question is often asked of which hip-hop beat maker is the best. I find this question similar to asking which car is best. Everything comes down to budget first, then how you work, how the application feels to you and which features are more important to you in terms of the types of audio editing and manipulation you intend to implement in your audio production.

There is no end to the choices of DAW (digital audio workstation) applications on the market, most of which these days will feature some form of sample library and/or virtual instrument dedicated to making beats. Many of these programs are designed for much wider audio production needs such as multi track audio recording, in depth editing and audio processing, mixing, mastering and so on.

So when it comes to deciding on a hip-hop beat maker, one of the first things to consider is what other features and functionality would you be looking for in regards to how you intend to make beats. Some programs will allow you to record your own audio into them making it possible for you to create your own samples, while other programs will not have this feature, but will allow you to import pre-recorded samples into them. These audio production applications can range from low-end introductory programs from less then $50 on up to high-end DAW platforms of $500 and up, and all of which will include the basics of audio production.

However, when considering which hip-hop beat maker to go for, there is much to say about higher end DAW application such as Logic, Reason or Ableton to name a few. The engines behind these programs are relative powerhouses when compared to cheaper applications. The functions and features are more abundant and are usually closer to industry standards with the results achievable. They also tend to feel more solid and stable, and the sound quality tends to be a cut above in terms of overall fidelity. Also, if you intend to expand your audio production skills around making beats by delving deeper into analogue recording techniques, track automation, audio editing and processing along with mixing and mastering of your material, then you must consider the higher end applications to ensure you will have everything you need when the time comes.

Within any hip-hop beat maker application there will be functionality to work with external audio hardware such as keyboard synthesizers, drum pads and sample/sound triggers. The hardware is connected to your DAW through a system called midi (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). This allows you to work in more of a performance structure when creating beats as apposed to tapping your computer keypad or putting notes in place using your mouse. Having the ability to play your beats by hand on an external midi trigger keyboard or pad tends to result in more favourable leads and rhythms with natural swing, groove and movement.

My personal choice in regard to a hip-hop beat maker is to work within the virtual world of computer DAW applications as apposed to workstation keyboards. For me the wider range of tools, updates, third party support, unlimited installations of supporting software and so on makes working within my computer far more expansive, powerful and supportive to the way I work. But that’s just me.

A few years ago there was a revolution in recording technology. As computers became more powerful, they started to replace traditional tape recorders that were the heart of most recording studios. Today, computers designed for home use are powerful enough to emulate an entire recording studio, and can be used for everything from multitrack recording to audio editing and scoring music for videos.

This “democratizing” of recording techniques has opened up the entire recording industry to anyone with the proper software and hardware. With software packages costing a few hundred dollars and professional-quality audio interfaces costing less than $100, anybody can have a virtual recording studio in their home.

Some of the big names in the audio recording field are Cubase, ProTools, Sonar and Sound Forge. Each of these Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) can be used for multi-track recording and editing and have the ability to combine recordings with “virtual instruments”.

Virtual instruments are computer-generated sounds that can be played via MIDI. Traditionally, MIDI was used to send music data to hardware devices like keyboards and sound modules, but computers are now powerful enough to emulate sound modules. Instead of hooking up cables to an external device to play MIDI tracks, virtual instruments can be loaded into the computer’s memory to play any type of sound.

MIDI tracks can be combined with audio tracks and all of it played back in perfect synchronization. All tracks can be processed with effects like reverb and chorus, and the entire mix can be compressed for a professional sounding result.

Although professional sound recording packages can be fairly expensive, you can get your feet wet by trying out one of the shareware programs that are available. They will allow you to see the capabilities of digital recording, and if you want to develop your interests further you can later buy one of the professional programs.
